Blattel Communications has launched a community resource for tracking the author AI disclosure requirements issued by various media outlets.
Earned media exposure, in the form of educational byline articles published by third-party outlets, continues to be an essential tool for gaining visibility, demonstrating expertise and helping professionals gain both real-world and online search authority. But the rules of engagement can vary widely from publication to publication. Many media outlets are developing formal contributor policies that include restrictions or transparency requirements on the use of AI in developing submitted content.
At Blattel Communications, we’re working with clients to help them navigate the implications of this quickly evolving new reality, especially when submitting original work for publication. To help our community stay on top of these requirements, we’ve started an AI Disclosure Reference Sheet, which is open to all.
We’ve populated the reference sheet with some of the AI disclosure policies we’ve noted and will continue to add outlets as new information becomes available. We invite everyone to bookmark it and submit updates as you encounter new or updated author guidelines and policies.

For more background on what led to the development of this author AI disclosure resource, please visit our blog post exploring the topic, “Disclosure Day: Byline AI Disclosure Requirements Emerge,” by Blattel Communications’ Vice President of Media Relations and long-time LMA member Michael Bond.
No author wants to spend valuable time and energy drafting an article only to have it rejected for running afoul of a publication’s AI-content policy. With this in mind, Michael shares some of what we’ve been seeing as we work with publications from national business publications to legal and industry trade journals. In the post, he explores:
- The consequences of not appropriately identifying AI assistance in developing content
- Examples of real-life disclosure clauses issued by media outlets
- How disclosures facilitate trust with editors and audiences
- The accuracy and limitations of current AI detection tools
- Top tips and takeaways when using AI to create bylines and submitted content
