Peter Shaplen

Chief Crisis Strategist

Creating Order Out of Chaos

Peter’s first introduction with a company often comes at times of great internal stress while the organization spirals in crisis. His ability to actively listen and quickly gather and synthesize a tremendous amount of information enables him to craft effective responses and strategies that provide a clear path forward.

Contact

As a hybrid journalist, producer, writer, crisis manager and teacher, Peter Shaplen brings a unique mix of skills to Blattel Communications’ crisis communications capabilities. His breaking news and feature news assignments can be seen on national and global networks, while corporate projects include videos for professional services, tech, and healthcare/biotech companies, among others.

Providing Strategic, Business-Critical Messaging

Peter provides businesses, public policy organizations and individuals with strategic multimedia (news and PR) advice, including media training, message development and crisis management. This includes writing talking points and statements, preparing messengers and content for media news conferences and other encounters, and even providing logistical guidance for media management on site. With more than four decades’ experience, he skillfully helps clients articulate and deliver their business-critical messages on multiple media platforms – and usually very, very quickly.

Professional Activities

In addition to his communications work, Peter is also a college instructor for writing and multimedia production. His work has garnered him national honors and recognition, including a Mark Twain award from the Associated Press and a Special Award from the Radio-TV News Directors Association; program honors and awards from the San Francisco Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival; and numerous Aegis, Cine, Communicator, Mercury, Questar, Summit and Telly Awards for his corporate projects.
